Antique Cut Glass Sterling Silver Pitcher Jug Bailey Banks & Biddle Acorn (5026)
Antique Cut Glass Sterling Silver Pitcher Jug Bailey Banks & Biddle Acorn (5026)
Antique water / lemonade pitcher jug. Cut glass and sterling silver. Made late 19th - early 20th century by Bailey, Banks and Biddle, Philadelphia, USA.
Measures 10 1/4 inches high. Diameter of base is 5 1/4 inches.
Cylindrical shape, tapering towards the top. Very heavy cut glass from the American Brilliant Cut Glass era. Rich, deep cutting in a variety of patterns. Sturdy cut glass handle. Starburst bottom. The upper portion of the pitcher is encased in a marvelous silver collar with scrolling waves of acorns, oak leaves and flowers in high relief. Wonderful detail and design against the smooth upper edge and the cut glass below.
Marks: Engraved Bailey Banks & Biddle, Company pictorial symbol or logo, STERLING 109 PAT 96 (presumably the patent was 1896).
Condition: generally good condition. I found 3 tiny nibbles to the cut glass and there is a flaw/ding on a join in the silver (see 'photos).
