Antique Victorian Creole earrings. 14k gold, pearls and sapphires. Bought in Paris, but origin not certain - possibly Italian. Date to 19th century. Measurements: Weight is 7.7 grams. Length, not including wires is approximately 2 1/8 inc (5.25cm). Description : Fabulous big earrings. Simple wires connected to a ring of gold from which a pair of loops suspend a crenelated bowl with a small pearl inside it. These swing within the little round rings of gold. At the bottom, another pair of gold loops suspend a much bigger hoop of gold, tapering slightly towards the top and much wider at the bottom, so that the surface has space for additional adornment in the form of applied flowers and foliage in gold and pearls. The pearls are set in silver. Within these hoops is another detail - another hanging flower in two layers, one within the other and a small central sapphire within. Again, this flower moves independently of the other parts of the earrings, so there is varied, diverse swinging and swaying from the different elements as the wearer moves. Despite their large appearance, the earrings are relatively light. Easy to insert and comfortable to wear. They are extremely versatile and can be worn with any outfit from your most casual jeans to party gear. Beautifully made, a lot of fun. Marks and Metal: Unknown hallmarks on back of earrings. Gold acid tests for 14k. Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
