Description : Classic solitaire design combined with superior Edwardian / Belle Epoque workmanship. The focal point of the ring is a relatively large natural pearl that rises high above the finger. Like a closed bud emerging from a stalk before it blossoms, it is held in a platinum cup. On either side of the pearl, a line of filigree finished platinum descends to the shank and provides extra support to the pearl as well as leading the eye from the sides to the white, creamy bud and back down the sides. The curving line of platinum is finely set with small old cut diamonds. Simple shank.
Marks and Metal: French Dog head mark on outside of shank indicates platinum.
Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
Note that the video was taken in strong artificial light and if some of the pearl shows up as yellow, it is the fault of the lighting and camera. The actual color is white/cream.
THE STORY: Jewelry of this period is argueably the finest ever made. Great jewelry of this period often combined the silvery tone of platinum with the silvery-white of diamonds and the white of pearls. When we think of outstanding, fabulous jewels, this is exactly what we have in mind.
It was during this era that the super-wealthy, royalty and aristocrats from East to West, Asia to the USA, went to Paris to have their jewelry made. This is the period of the emergance of companies like Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels as leaders in the jewelry world, where they have remained for over a century.
Originally jewelry for princesses and queens, now it is available to you.
Note: Not to be confused with cultured pearls, natural pearls are entirely made by Mother Nature with no human intervention. Natural pearls have always been rare and desired. Natural pearls of this size are even more rare and desireable.
