Antique Victorian cuff bracelet bangle. 18k yellow gold, rubies and diamonds. Made in Paris by Emile Froment-Meurice, 2nd half of the 19th century (circa 1860-1900).

Measurement: Outer diameter is 6.5cm (2 5/8 inches); Inner diameter is 5 3/4cm (2 1/4inches). Width is 2.5cm (just under 1inch). Weighs 71.5grams.

Wide cuff bangle bracelet. Outer, protruding borders are very solid and have a scrolling pattern in the Greek style. The wide band between the borders is openwork, gold. Solid, beaded diagonal lines form diamond shapes, within which are flowers, centered by rubies and diamonds. Gothic/Renaissance feel to the design, especially when viewed from the inside. A safety chain is original to the bracelet. Tongue in Groove clasp is sturdy and secure. It opens by pushing on the ruby near the clasp. Fine hinge is all but invisible on the other side. Outstanding workmanship and quality. True museum piece.

Marks: French eagle hallmarks for 18k gold and the signed name Froment-Meurice.

Condition: very good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Like his father, Emile Froment-Meurice was regarded as an undisputed master of the jewelry trade and his jewels regarded as works of art even in his time. Vever describes his settings as lighter, more delicate and with elegant forms and the designs more carefuly elaborated. Revivals were still popular. Bracelets were the predominant jewels of the Second Empire - worn on each arm, several together.
