Antique Art Nouveau ring. Silver and amethyst. Made circa 1900 in France, by the artist jeweller, DuMont.

Measurements: Weight is 4.1 grams. US size 4.25. Can be resized.

Description : Rare Art Nouveau ring, actually from the period. A large, oval amethyst is held within the fluted, fan-shaped leaves, sometimes referred to as waterlilies and sometimes as ginkgo leaves. The leaves are modelled very naturalistically, as though either floating in water or billowing in the wind and their moving shape holds the amethyst in place, very cleverly. The stems form an openwork, overlapping, twining structure that surrounds the amethyst, incorporating the shank of the ring in their design. This is a rare example of genuine Art Nouveau jewelry, incorporating the design and aesthetic of the period and style. The ring has been resized.

DuMont specialised in jewelry using these large, billowing leaves that beautifully twined around a central stone. Usually, the stones are smaller than in this case. On rare occasions, he worked in gold. His style is so distinctive that it is easily recognisable. Pieces by original, Art Nouveau jewellers are extremely rare.

Marks and Metal: Most of the signature is illegible, but the DuM for DuMont is still visible.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. As mentioned, the ring has been resized. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
