Antique Art Nouveau Ring 8k Gold Platinum Diamonds Opal w Appraisal (6899)
Antique Art Nouveau Ring 8k Gold Platinum Diamonds Opal w Appraisal (6899)
Antique Art Nouveau ring. 18k gold, platinum, opal and diamonds. Made in France circa 1890 - 1910.
Measurements: Weight is 7.7 grams. US size 9. Length of bezel is approximately 1 1/2 inches (over 3cm).
Description :Spectacular looking Art Nouveau ring. Very strong design with an elongated, narrow navette-shaped opal raised up in the center, held in a gold colette and surrounded by a lower border of rose cut diamonds set in platinum. The opal is fabulous - various shades of blue and purple, glowing orange and light as the finger moves. Full of life and movement. Cut en cabochon, the opal is almost like a torpedo in its length and powerful long, rounded shape. The wide shank is no less fabulous with wonderful repousse gold flowers in high relief near the shoulders and foliage as the shank tapers slightly towards the back. This beautiful gold work makes the perfect foil for the strong geometric shape of the bezel and the great play of colors of the entire ring.
Top quality and workmanship. The ring is very beautiful - we see many unexceptional navette-shaped opal rings, but this one is in a league of its own from every perspective.
Marks and Metal: Very worn (almost invisible) eagle head for 18k gold on the shank. Gold and Platinum were acid tested to ensure metal purity.
Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Independent appraisal available to new owner upon request.
