Antique Art Nouveau ring. 18k yellow gold and moonstone. Made in France circa 1900. Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.
Measurements: Weight is 9.2 grams. Very slightly under US size 9.75.
Description : Bezel of ring is a cabochon moonstone, mounted in gold. Greyish color. It is 'held aloft' by a pair of figures: a male Pan-god figure (he has little horns curling above his ears) and a female with long flowing locks. The heads and torsoes of the figures are modelled naturalistically. Further down, they appear to emerge from architectural, scrolling columnes.
Relatively large size indicates that it was most likely worn by a man, but it is entirely unisex and suitable for anyone.
Marks and Metal: Horse head was used 1838-1919. Maker's mark lozenge is not clear.
Condition: Fairly significant wear commensurate with age and use. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
THE STORY: Figural rings from this period are passionately sought after and increasingly rare. Clearly the ring was well-loved as we can see by the wear and softened details.
