Antique Art Deco ring gold blue zircon sapphires diamonds French (7527)

Antique, Art Deco ring. 18k yellow gold, blue zircon, blue sapphires, tiny diamonds. Small amount of white gold.  Made in France circa 1920's.

Measurements:

Weight is 3.2 grams.  US size 6. Length of bezel approximately 16mm. Zircon is 3.88ct. 

Description :

Bezel with rectangular form with rounded corners.  The outer border is a ring of small royal blue sapphires, finely calibre set in yellow gold. Within is a sparkly sky blue zircon, gently faceted. The shoulders are trifurcated (3 branches), the outer branches in yellow gold bands fanning out, while the middle branch is a leaf-shaped, white gold milligrained mount containing a small diamond. The bezel is mounted on a low, openwork gallery, that allows light to enter from behind the zircon, adding to the glowing shine. While allowing light to enter from behind, the gallery is very low so that that ring sits fairly flat on the finger. 
Very good workmanship and great design.

THE STORY: 

Very classic Art Deco with the luscious gem in a flat, geometric setting. It is important to remember that zircons are natural stones, produced by Mother Earth and not to be confused with cz's that are entirely man-made. As knowledge about these gems is growing, they are increasingly sought after for their sky-blue color and wonderful shine. It's quite unusual to find a zircon of this size and shape. Wonderful clarity of the gem allowed it to be cut so that we can see through it without hiding flaws in angled facets. The color is further cleverly offset by the darker royal-blue of the sapphires. A beautiful jewel that looks as beautiful on the finger today as it did over 100 years ago.
