Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Sugar Caster Peter & Ann Bateman 1791 (5523)

 Antique George III sugar salt mustard caster / castor. Sterling silver. Made London England 1791 by Peter and Ann Bateman.

Measurements: approximately 5 3/4 inches / 14.5cm tall. Weighs 74.6grams. 

Baluster shaped caster standing on a round foot. Fine gadrooning and rope-twist on borders. Pierced lid with typical holes in double diamond engraved bands. The finial is long, thin and elegant and also baluster shaped. 

Marks: Hallmarks on front of caster and on rim of lid. the caster is marked with the Peter and Ann Bateman mark, only partially legible; lion and leopard head; date letter 'q' is partially legible (and clearly a 'q'); monarch's head. The top/lid is marked with a lion passant and maker's mark - a little clearer, but also not entirely legible. 

Condition: Minor dents and wear commensurate with age. (nothing that can be construed as damage).
