Figural lamp by The Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstatte or the Vienna School of Ceramics , Vienna, Austria first decade of 20th century.

Figure stands just under 8 inches high.

Very rare black and white figural lamp.

Stands on oval base with black beaded border.

Putto leans one arm on a cornucopia overflowing with flowers.

The other arm holds up a torch, on top of which the lamp fittings are placed.

Relief modelled roses and other flowers cascade from her hair.

Black and white were supposedly more rare than coloured examples of these figures.

Impressed marks underneath show the The Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstatte or the Vienna School of Ceramics and Austria marks as well as various numerals, presumably model numbers.

There is an indentation and tunnel under the base made to accommodate an electric cord.

There is a kiln crack in this tunnel, as can be clearly seen magnified in the 'photos.

It cannot be seen unless you turn the figure upside down and look underneath.

There is crazing to the glaze, but no chips/cracks.

While clearly made to be a lamp, we do not know whether the current lamp fittings are original - possibly something on the top of the figure's torch has been changed as the metal does not look original.

Note: We had an email stating that the factory that made this piece wasWiener Kunstkeramische Werkstdtte.

Another emailer says Michael Powolny made by the Wiener Kunstkeramische Werkstadte.

Thank you all.
