Antique Victorian Archaeological Revival snake ring. 18k yellow gold and diamonds. Made and signed by Carlo Giuliano in England, circa 1870's. Unisex - Suitable for a man or woman.

Measurements: US ring size 9.5 (a tad under). Weighs 9.9 grams.

Description : The large size and sturdy design of this wonderful ring make it suitable for either a man or a woman. The shank consists of 3 parallel bands that also constitute the body of the snake. The bezel consists of a final, 4th band morphing into the snake's head that diagonally crosses the other 3 bands. The head is beautifully, naturalistically modelled with diamond set eyes and a large (approximately 0.34ct) diamond set in the center of the head. This ring epitomises understated elegance where 'less is more' - the seemingly simple design making for a very strong statement.

Marks: Inside the shank are 3 oval lozenges: CG 18 and CG where the CG is for Carlo Giuliano and 18 for the gold standard.

Condition: Minor wear commensurate with age and use. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

THE STORY: Carlo Giuliano needs no introduction to jewelry lovers. For almost 150 years, this name has been synonymous with the leading manufacturer of jewelry both from the technical and the artistic perspective. Considered the disciple of Castellani, CG came to London where he initially made jewelry for other top brands. However, his work was so outstanding that he eventually opened shop under his own name. His work reflects the Classical Revival obsessions of the late Victorians. It is increasingly rare and highly sought after throughout the world.
Snakes, have of course, been a popular theme in jewelry since the days of the Ancient Greeks and Romans. There are many meanings and symbols of the snake in jewelry - from long life to long love and protection. To find a snake ring of this quality is rare; to find a snake ring by Carlo Giuliano is unique.
