Antique Victorian bangle bracelet. 14k gold, emerald, diamonds and pearls. Made circa 1860 - 1880.

Measurements: Inner diameter is approximately 6 1/2 inches. Weighs 22.5 grams. Emerald 2.69ct; diamonds 1.46ct.

Description : Classic High Victorian in design, the bangle is a simple gold band with a rich and luxurious top. The center is a large square emerald raised aloft by gold prongs in a C-pattern. An old European cut diamond is placed at the same height as the emerald at each of the cardinal points. Linking them, at a lower level is a circle of rose cut diamonds. On either side is a large pearl. We strongly believe that these are natural pearls as the bangle was made long before the perfection of cultured pearls. Tiny diamonds at right angles to the pearls. The pearls are followed by a pair of pear-shaped diamonds, their points drawing the eye away from the extremities. A gold safety chain helps secure the well-fitting tongue-in-groove clasp.

The bangle was possibly a transforming jewel- able to be worn in more than one way (for example as part of a tiara), but it has been fixed permanently as a bangle for now and no other parts survive.

Very high level of workmanship and stunning appearance.

Marks: Gold was acid tested to ensure metal purity. There is a pair of worn marks on the tongue of the clasp, but we do not know their significance and they are not clearly legible.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age and use. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.

Bracelet was independently appraised for $8500.00. Appraisal is available to new owner.
