Antique Victorian Napoleon III earrings ear pendants. 18k yellow gold, emeralds and enamel. Made in France, circa 1870.
Independent appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 8.9 grams. Approximately 1 3/8 inches (3.4cm) long, not including the wires.

Description : Known as Day Night or Top Drop earrings because the tops can be worn alone by day, or with the drops at night.
The earrings are made of yellow gold, beautiful, bright square cut emeralds, enamel and some smaller, round emeralds.
Strong geometric design. The tops are triangular, with the point of the triangle towards the bottom, like a 'V'. The space between the emerald-set sides of the 'V' filled with an additional pair of emeralds, thus filling in the triangle.
Joined by a pair of gold loops is an oval drop with a gold-mounted band of small, round emeralds around the circumference. The bottom with a gold, globular terminal.
Pale enamel like angel-skin coral with bright orange gleams where the light catches it.
Wires are original to the earrings and go from back to front of the ear lobe. They are hinged and have a simple catch behind the surmount.
Very good quality of enamel and emeralds. Emeralds in the surmount are of a beautiful, bright green; tiny emeralds in the drops are of a mixed quality - some bright, some quite pale. Lovely color and gleam to the square-cut stones.
Versatile: the emerald tops can be worn alone by simply slipping off the looped drops. For a more elegant look, the drops can simply be slipped back over the wires. Very modern looking despite being about 150 years old.

Marks and Metal: Both surmounts and drops are hallmarked with French eagle head mark for Paris, French, 18k gold. The tops are marked on the wires towards the end furthest from the clasp; the bottoms are marked on the larger of the two loops that connects them to the tops.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
