Antique Victorian cross pendant. 18k gold, turquoise, pearls, diamonds. Origin unknown, but likely England or Italy, circa 1860 - 1880. Comes with a gold chain (see below). Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman. Measurements: Weight is 3.8 grams. Length is a tad under 2 inches (5cm), including the bale. Description : Classic Latin cross with the vertical bottom arm longer than the horizontal arms. Solidly mounted in gold, rows of calibre set and cut turquoise of a lovely shade of blue that still match - rare after such a long time. The terminals have a trio of small white globules - 2 are pearls and the ultimate one is an iridescent bead, possibly glass (too small to test). The central intersection of the arms is set with a larger pearl and the diagonals have tiny diamond accents, set in leaf-like cells. The bale exactly matches the turquoise of the cross. It is big enough to hold quite a large chain. It is rare to find turquoise that has not discolored after so many years. In this case, the color is very lovely and well-matched. The gold and white pearls set them off beautifully. The cross is as wearable today as it was almost 150 years ago. Marks and Metal: No marks. Gold was acid tested as 18k. The pendant comes with an old gold chain. Gold tests approx 14k. Length just under 16 1/2 inches (42cm). Weighs 6.3 grams. Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
