Antique Victorian Napoleon III bangle bracelet. 18k gold, some silver, garnet and diamonds. Made in France, circa 1840-1880. Appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 17.6 grams. Garnet 12.33ct. Diamonds 0.52ct. Inner circumference approximately 6 inches (15cm).

Description : Solid gold bangle with a hinge to make dressing easier, and secure tongue-in-groove clasp. Shoulders broaden to form a wide step, in turn adorned with a raised silver band, pave set with rose-cut diamonds. The band narrows again, very sculptural - to the center or top of the bangle, which seems to float in the middle of the diamond bands on either side. The oval center is bordered by silver-mounted rose cut diamonds, containing a large, deep red garnet cabochon. Known as 'carbuncles', garnets like this were very popular and sought after in the Victorian and Georgian periods. The entire center is raised by an openwork gallery of gold loops supported on a gold band. Classically beautiful and wearable. Please note the size of the bangle - made for women who were smaller than many of us today, but perfect if you are a fairly thin lady.

Marks and Metal: Tongue has French hallmark, slightly worn. Gold was also acid tested to ensure metal purity.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. All original condition. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Professional Independent appraisal (with value of $10120.00)
