Antique ring. 18k gold, rubies, emeralds, diamond and enamel. Made in Rajastan, India. Sold as 150 years old, but it is impossible to establish an exact date. (We think 60-100 years old).
Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman. Independent appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 7.10 grams. Approximately US size 5.75. Cannot be resized. 1.67ct colored gems. Diamond 0.29ct.

Description : A wraparound ring in the form of a bird. Seen in profile, the bird looks back over its wing. The arching neck curves to form the upper half of a double ring that wraps around the finger. Bird with gently rounded form, making it more realistic and more luxurious. Rubies cut in free-form to fit into gold cells, called kundan work. A single diamond forms the tail. Emeralds are bezel set. Like much antique Indian jewelry, emeralds are closed at the back and some have an olive-green tone and some appear quite colorless (but test as emeralds).
Gold eye.
The huge bonus of some Indian jewelry is that beyond the form, design and gems, the inside and sides are futher adorned with enamel detail. The sides are moulded in gold, geometric blocks that protrude from a blue enamel ground. Inside the bezel, the enamel depicts the same bird in bright red and green with gold detail. Inside of shank is green enamel and gold in a feathery design.
Naturalistic, beautifully made and very sensuous.

Birds are huge favorites in India and symbolic of that country. Parrots and peacocks are hugely symbolic of the country as a whole and the Mughal empire in particular. Hawks, swans, doves and other species were all popular and played a large part in Indian culture over the centuries.

Marks and Metal: no marks. Gold was tested as at least 18k, possibly more (electronic tester tests as higher gold, but we are going with acid tested 18k to err on the side of caution).

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Minor enamel loss through use. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer. Independent appraisal (value $9500.00) available to new owner.
