Antique pendant. 22k yellow gold, rubies, emeralds and white sapphires. Made in India. Well over 100 years old - see below. Unisex - suitable for a man or a woman.
Independent appraisal.

Measurements: Weight is 23.9 grams. 11.25ct colored stones. 1 3/4 inches (4.5cm) long, not including the bale, which is 1/4inch (.75cm) long.

Description : Designed as a pair of peacocks, facing outwards from a tear-shaped center with foliage bottom. The entire pendant is kundan set with cabochon rubies and emeralds and flat cut white sapphires. Each gem is set in its own, individual gold cell, with scalloped, leafy borders. This pendant might have begun life as an ornament for the forehead or other purpose, but has long been made as a pendant. 5 tiny loops near the bottom, allow gem/pearl drops to be attached.
Beautiful workmanship and design. It is unusual to find Indian jewels like this with such clean workmanship and attention to detail. Gems with wonderful gleam and glow. Highly wearable. Large, generous bale allows a chain of any size, ribbon or thread to be used to wear this wonderful pendant.

Peacocks are one of the most important symbols of India. The birds' bodies face outwards, but they appear to be turning, to look back at one another. Heads are gold granulation. Tails swirl up and surround the tear-shaped border of white sapphires, beautifully set in scalloped cells. They enclose a raised gold border enclosing a larger cabochon ruby. The gem immediately above and below this sapphire section is a cabochon emerald. The rest of the stones are rubies.

Age: the highly regarded authority on Indian jewelry told us that this pendant is 250 years old. This may be correct, but we are going with a more conservative estimate of 100 years, to err on the side of caution.

Marks and Metal: no marks, as is to be expected in jewelry of this age. Gold was acid and electronically tested as 22k.

Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
