Antique American Aesthetic Movement Mixed metal server / serving spoon. Sterling silver and gold wash. Rare Hizen pattern with gold wash. Made by Gorham, Rhode Island, USA, circa 1885.

Measurements: 6 1/2 inches long. Weighs 44.6grams.

Natural, marine and foliate theme. The sea-shell, molusc shaped bowl is gilt washed and inset with 3 silver leaves. The inset silver is subtly mirrored in the 3-leaves in gold on the near-side of the handle. Arts and Crafts influence seen in the join of the bowl to the handle - intentionally highlighted joins that are included in the decoration.
The arching, hand-hammered handle is covered on top with applied natural forms. Leaves, arching stems and scrolling tendrils surround a luscious crab. Various textures and shapes add interest. The terminal is assymetric, typical of the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements of the period.

The back is hallmarked STERLING and has the Gorham logo as well as an engraved monogram (AHR).

Condition is good with natural negligible wear commensurate with age.
