Antique brooch. 14k yellow gold, garnets. Most likely English, made 18th century. Sold to me as Georgian, but it could very well be from the period of Queen Anne, earlier in the 1700's.

Measurements: Weight is 16.5 grams.

Description : Brooch that can easily be worn as a pendant in the form of a cross. Gold and garnets with 5 identical Octogonal disks connected with inverse scrolls in an openwork and airy design. The gold borders of each disk are finely engraved with scrolling, foliate patterns. Raised, flat cut garnets of a deep red, much beloved in England during the 18th century. Held in octogonal collettes with supports ending in golden globules at each of the corners. Photos do not show the deep yellow glow of the gold, which shows up beautifully against the deep red glow of the garnets. Intrigueing and mysterious and makes an incredible statement. Would be fabulous suspended by a gold chain or black ribbon.

Hinged pin at the back with simple c-clasp. Very royal and rich in appearance despite apparrent understated simplicity.

Marks and Metal: As is to be expected of jewelry of this period, there are no hallmarks on the earrings. Gold was tested to ensure metal purity. Central disk of gold withe engraved initials / monogram LEP on the back.

Condition: Good with minor wear commensurate with age. Please see enlarged pictures and don't hesitate to ask questions which we will do our best to answer.
