Antique Georgian Earrings Cannetille Day Night Amethyst 15ct Gold Pearls (6705)

Antique Georgian Regency earrings ear pendants. 15ct yellow gold, amethysts and little pearls. Made in England circa 1820's.

Description : Day Night, Top Drop - these are fabulous, versatile Georgian ear pendants, suitable for wear by day or by night with bottoms and tops seperating to simpler or more elegant ear pendants. The surmounts or tops are horizontal ovals of amethysts, with collette settings of gold with teeth or saw edges on top. Surrounded by very fine filigree and granulated cannetille work. The drops are absolutely fabulous, being in the form of pansies, echoing the work of the surmounts above. Central little pearls surrounded by petals of deep purple amethysts in the same cannetille gold mounts as the tops. Simple wires hold the two parts together. The bottom simply slides off the top. (see pictures). The amethysts are a wonderful deep purple, usually referred to as Siberian amethysts due to their wonderful quality. The golden yellow is the perfect contrast to purple, being it's complementary color. The strong colors and bold design are a wonderful balance to the minutely fine workmanship of the cannetille.

 

Wires are almost certainly replacements, typical of earrings of this period.

 

Marks and Metal: As is to be expected of jewelry of this period, there are no marks on the earrings. Gold was tested to ensure metal purity.
